Investment Of Emotion

When making decisions, investments, we know better to manage our emotions, investing and the use of logical based investment process. And when times get tough, we strive to give our emotions get in the way. When emotionally based investment behavior drives our investment decisions, consider that lose money. Recognizing the investment behavior, which allows you to invest your emotions get in our way, is an important step to keep them at a distance.

Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein in his book entitled “Nudge: Improving decisions about health, wealth and happiness, we describe some of the emotions that investments tend to get in our way and how we can deal with them. When the market trend from lower left to upper right, you can easily get lost in some of this emotional investment.

Following the herd. It’s easy to go along with the crowd. If it is safe for them, it must be safe for me. Nevertheless, we must pay attention to those signals, which we have little to get something can not be right. This is especially true if our investment process tells us to take precautions. If our analysis tells us to be cautious, despite the fact that the crowd says, to take steps to protect your profits.

If your stocks are those that are discussed at all cocktails, you know, you become part of the herd. This does not mean that you should close these positions; it means you should rethink why you own them, should you keep them, and what is your exit strategy.

False sense of security. When things go well, investors might be lulled into a false sense of security. Markets will continue to grow our portfolios grow with him. We could even take on more risky investments, buying a hot stock market in an attempt to increase our revenues. When profits come Easy, investors tend to think that they know everything, and lose their sense of anxiety. When this happens, it indicates that you are vulnerable to large losses on the market should turn against us.

Whenever you feel this investment behavior, to reconsider their positions on the basis of what you are looking at what is going right and what can go wrong. Be prepared to take action if the positive trends turn against you. Always think that could change the current sound momentum. Few opposite perspective do not hurt.

Reduce risk. The best professional investors are always to focus first on the risk that they acquire. Furthermore, they articulate what they will do to manage this risk. Then they examine the potential return. When things go well, there is a tendency to ignore the risk you incur. After a good long-term action, the risk of reversal increases. If you are unable to formulate an increased risk you assume, it is a sign that you can avoid the growing dangers of your position.

To manage this investment behavior does not cease to do homework. Especially continue to assess the risks of their positions as they grow in value. Always use a strategy to reduce risks, which include selling part of your position after Nice ran. Be assured, your trailing stop where it should be. Consider using covered calls and protective puts when the parameters of risk may be higher. No one went broke selling positions that were profitable.

Forgetting to diversify properly. When we make money on the market and our portfolio grows in value, we strive to congratulate ourselves on the fact that we have a large investor. During our portfolio can become too concentrated in one asset without us even realizing it. This might work, if this asset class is one of the leaders in the market. In the end, the time will come when money will be transferred to other assets, leaving behind you. Worse yet, your portfolio may decline in a hurry.

To manage the investment of emotion, at least quarterly, preferably monthly, to assess how you have become too concentrated in one asset. If it looks like some shares increased significantly, it might be time to take a little bit on the table. Consider the sale of half of each winning position and put money to work in another and the surrounding areas. The other half of your best stock can save Running with Trailing Stop to protect your growing profits. Only now, you’re playing for money at home.

Investing emotion is one of behavior we can control, adhering to its rules. When our emotions get in the way of investment, we tend to make mistakes that will cost us. When things go well, is easy to forget to follow appropriate rules of investing. Take steps to recognize the symptoms, and then return to a proven investment process. Your portfolio will thank you.

Why Trade Options?

Conventional wisdom tells us to place our money on an investment vehicle we are most familiar with and on investment vehicle we can benefit most. Since understanding the rise and fall of stocks is much easier than knowing the basics of options trading, it is a more popular choice for the many. But the fact is options trading provide several advantages than any other investment vehicles, including the stock market or even the Forex. Let us look at some:

Leverage

Buying a call option gives the investor a good option position that is similar to stock position. For example, if an investor would by 300 stocks selling at $50 per share, he would have to pay $15,000. But if he would choose to purchase three $20 calls (each contract representing 100 lots or shares), he will only have to pay $6,000 (3 contracts X 100 shares/contract X $20 market price). The investor would then have an extra $9,000 to spend or invest on his or her discretion. The process is obviously not as simple as that. The investor would have to know which call to buy to have a good option position, similar to stock position. However, if you are looking for a good investment without risking large sum of money at once, option trading is the better choice.

Limited Risk

Investment is said to be for the risk takers. This is good if your risk automatically yields to profit. But that is not always the case. In options trading, however, you can have unlimited profit potential and at the same time have limited risk. This is because options trading only give you the right to buy or sell underlying asset, and not the obligation. Meaning, if the price is not right at the end of the contract, you can just ignore and let the contract expire. If, however, you can profit for the change in shares prices, you can assert your right and pursue the contract.

For example, you buy a certain call option for $20 (strike price) that will end on the third Friday of March. On the expiry date, shares you bought are trading at $25. Definitely, you can instantly earn $5 per share and would have to pursue with the contract.

What if the at the expiry date is lower than the strike price?

Let us imagine that the shares you have bought went down to $15 or even $5 at the end of the contract, do you have to pursue the contract? No!

You just have to let the contract expire.

What have you lost then?

The option premium you paid the seller. Nothing more.

Unlimited Profit Potential

Say a certain call option you have bought is now trading at $38 per share. You can exercise your right to buy it for the strike price of $20 and earn $18 minus the Option Premium you have paid. This is just an example. The price of shares can go higher than that. And if you have carefully chosen your call, you can get the best profit without breaking your bank. Note: if you are planning to pursue the contract and buy the shares, remember that you have to pay the full amount. So at the expiry date, make sure that you have you the cash.

Find Important Tips About Toilet Training For Dogs

Dog training is definitely not rocket science and is easier than you would expect particularly if you can get help from a good dog training book or guide. It’s also certainly possible for almost any dog owners to train their dogs themselves provided they put in adequate amount of effort.

Nevertheless, you might still want to get additional help from a professional trainer, especially if you got a tough nut to crack in your hand. Before you engage a trainer, it’s always best that you do some research first as there are many trainers with different teaching styles and not every style suit every dog or owner.

Here’s a guide for you to find a reliable trainer:

Ask someone

It wouldn’t hurt you to open your mouth to ask someone for advice or recommendation.

- Ask your friends, even strangers you meet in the park for the contacts of their trainer if you notice that he owns a particular well-train dog. Even if they don’t engage a trainer, you could still possibly pick up some valuable training tips. You’ve got nothing to lose and I’ll bet the owner would also most probably be flattered.

- Ask your veterinarian for recommendations. He deal with dogs everyday and must have seen the best and worse dog. He should have contacts for some good trainers in your area.

- Ask the local Humane Society, dog breeder or even your pet supplies shop owner. They are also a good source of information and might just be able to direct you to a trainer who is particularly suited to training your dog breed.

- You can also check out The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) Trainer Directory: => http://www.apdt.com/trainers-and-owners/trainer-search/trainer-search.php

The directory has a search engine that allows you to search trainer by specific geographical location and also list out if trainers are Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT) to help you make your decision.

*CPDT is certified by the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers an international testing and certification program for professional pet dog trainers. It is basically to ensure that the trainer has a certain level of knowledge and expertise. To be certified, trainers must have at least 300 hours of dog training experience and have passed an exam that assesses basic knowledge of canine training. For more details, visit http://www.ccpdt.org/

There are several things to look out for before you engage a trainer. You might want to consider these factors first before you engage one from a list of good contacts you got. The Trainer must have the following traits:

- must be humane and gentle with the dogs during training.

- must be an effective communicator and teacher. Both you and your dog must be able to understand his teaching for effective training. In short, “Do you understand the words that are coming out of his mouth?” As dog training involve both you and your dog, you must also be able to understand his teachings so that you can practice them when you get home.

- must be experience and up-to-date with the latest training methods. You might want to request a sit-in session to observe him and see if he can deal with the particularly difficult dogs. Don’t be afraid to ask him questions about his training background, training techniques, methods and etc. An experience trainer should have no problem answering your questions.

Distance - This might not be a big factor but certainly one worth considering. Imagine a 4 hours drive for every training session!

Hope these tips are useful to help you look for a good dog trainer.

Good luck in your quest for a good trainer!

Discover Important Info About Healthiest Dog Food

Barking is the dog’s instinctive means of giving a warning and it would be against your interest to discourage it. However, once you have been alerted, your dog should realize that his job is done. So select a word of praise, such as “Good Dog” or “Okay”, or command such as “quiet”, and give your dog a pat to indicate that he must now be still.

Hysterical barking such as during a thunderstorm, can be treated by reassurance, companionship, distraction, or if all else fails by tranquilizers from your veterinarian. Barking at a strange object can be quickly stopped by showing him that there is nothing to fear.

Barking from boredom or in order to attract attention is best treated by eliminating the cause. If you give your dog plenty of attention and exercise, you can insist on quiet behavior the rest of the time. Obedience training is of great indirect benefit due to the self-discipline it imposes and the mental and physical activity it provides.

Whining, barking, or howling when left alone should not be tolerated. It is easier to prevent in a puppy than it is to correct in an adult dog. However, even a lonely barker can be cured in an afternoon or evening if you arm yourself with patience and whatever acting talent you possess.

You must pretend to leave your dog alone, telling him to “Guard the house”, and that you will be “back soon”. As soon as your dog starts to bark or howl, you must burst furiously into your home, saying “Bad Dog” or “No!” A single experience may be enough to make it clear to your dog that his barking displeases you.

When your dog is duly impressed by your dissatisfaction, you should forgive him, settle him down, tell him to “Guard the House” and leave again. Be patient and hope for the best. If your dog has not barked within 5 or 10 minutes, you can be almost certain that he has learned his lesson. But if he resumes his barking, you must repeat the entire scenario, and repeat it as often as necessary.

As a final scene, stay away for a brief time, and when he hasn’t barked, return, greet him fondly and praise him. Then reward him with a treat or a walk, whichever he prefers. The next day you can test him by making a point of leaving him alone for a short period of time. Chances are that he will pass the test.

In the future, if you take the trouble to give him plenty of exercise beforehand, and opportunity to relieve himself, a diverting to or bone, water and food, whenever you have to leave your dog at home alone for an evening, he will never howl or bark without some justifiable reason.

A simple trick to stop your dog from barking with joy when you come home in the middle of the night is to give him his ball or bone or favorite toy. He cannot hold something in his mouth and bark at the same time. He may gurgle with delight, but this will not disturb the neighbors.

Find Helpful About Dog Potty Training

So you have decided you are going to buy a West Highland white terrier, otherwise known as a Westie. Westies are great little light-hearted dogs. They are quick to learn, and as a rule they are very self sufficient, and have wonderful, unique personalities. Most Westie owners will tell you that their dog possesses a “big personality.” They are lovable, but will never be mistaken for a lap dog.

If you are looking for a cuddly lap dog, a Westie may not be the right breed for you. They are notoriously independent, and won’t tolerate being held for very long periods. They like to be in close proximity to their owner/families, but they need their space. As a rule, when a Westie chooses a sleeping area they will find a private space. Away from the family, this sleeping area will most likely be somewhat protected on three sides; they also like to “cover their backs” when they sleep. Naturally there are exceptions to the rule. If the dog is taught to be a bit of a lap dog, they will most likely be a lap dog. But the Westie is not a natural lap dog. They like to call the shots, so to speak.

The Westie likes to be taken along with the family whenever possible. They are friendly, and love people in general, especially children. They are very loyal to their families and prefer being with their owners/families whenever possible.

When purchasing a dog most people prefer to buy a young puppy, and train the dog themselves. This can be rewarding. If buying a puppy, make sure you are home regularly enough to train the puppy properly. Westies are easy to train, but someone has to be in the home to do the training. Remember, it can be a frustrating and time consuming task to train a puppy. The other option is to purchase a dog that is a bit older, and has already been trained by the breeder. This is a good option, and many breeders can accommodate with a dog that is a little older and trained.

Male or female? In regard to temperament, there is little or no difference between the two in the Westie breed. It is said that Westie males are more affectionate than female Westies. The female is smaller and lighter, so easier to control on a walk or carry when necessary.

This pure white, sturdy small-framed dog is always full of energy and always on the alert and looking for fun. They love to get out and walk, and run in a wooded area, looking for game.

Westies’ ears stand up naturally at each side of their fluffy, happy face. At the opposite end, a perky short tail, which - by nature’s design - comes to a gradual point. As adults, it is desirable for the male Westie to be 11 inches in height; the female 10 inches in height. A Westies coat should be pure white. They have a double coat; the under coat being soft and fluffy, the top coat a bit coarse and wiry. This dual coat is natural to the Westie. The breed was developed and bread for a hard and dangerous job - that of hunting out and killing vermin. So the dual coat provides the Westie a good natural form of protection, not only from the elements, but the claws and teeth of its prey. The dry texture of the Westies coat also works to cut down on doggy odor. Due to this dryer coat they require less baths. They can be kept clean with frequent brushing and dry cleaning (this is done by adding a bit of corn starch to the dogs coat, brushing it out after a few minutes.)

Choosing a reputable breeder is very important. It is impossible to know when picking out your particular puppy just how that dog will turn out emotionally and physically. This is the best reason to find a good reputable breeder. A good breeder strives to breed healthy dogs that will exhibit traits that are natural to the dog they chose to breed. There are three choices when it comes to breeders; pet shop breeders, back yard breeders, and serious hobby breeders.

The pet shop breeder is the worst possible choice you can make when buying a dog. The puppies are poorly bred, and are thought of as merchandise to be sold for at a high profit. This form of breeding as a rule puts out sickly, unstable dogs, and I highly recommend you stay clear of pet shop breeders.

The backyard breeder can also be a poor choice. This type of breeder may be a Westie owner that thought it would be “fun” to have puppies. They know little about puppies and the training of puppies. As a rule they are not well acquainted with the stud dogs, and can offer little information on his background. They are unaware of the history of the breed, and any special needs of a given breed. To sum it up, they are ill-equipped to breed dogs, and lack the knowledge one needs to be a good breeder.

Your best choice when buying a dog is to find a serious hobby breeder. They have done their homework on the breed they are selling. As a rule, they are dog fanciers and do not look at breeding as a profit-only venture. They are breeding for show dogs. They strive to breed the best of their chosen breed. They will take responsibility for any and all pups produced, and stand behind their dogs. You can be assured the dogs are healthy, and have been given all the veterinary care they need as puppies along with proper training. A good breeder of Westies will belong to the “West Highland White Terrier Club of America”, and/or other well known Westie Clubs. They will most likely be involved in showing their dogs. A good breeder will ask you questions, and be very discriminating on the homes their puppies go to. They will guarantee their puppies, with an agreement to take the puppy back if for some reason you find you are not compatible with your new puppy. They will give you time to have the puppy looked at by a veterinarian of your choice, just to ensure there are no health problems looming, and that the puppy is in a good healthy condition.

A good breeder will have numerous references. They will be able to provide you with such references, in the way of other persons that have purchased dogs from them, along with their own veterinarians references. The breeder should be able to answer questions on the breed, and show a good knowledge of the breeds history. The breeder should also provide written instructions in regard to the puppies needs. Diet, exercise, and health care needs as a puppy and adult dog. The kennels should be clean, providing the dogs with a healthy environment. The dogs should be comfortable with the breeder, and show a good rapport with them. The dogs in the kennels should be of good temperament, and healthy in appearance. The good breeder will never sell a puppy that is too young to leave its mother.

And finally, the breeder should provide you with a record of the dates and types of vaccinations and worming that has been done on your puppy, along with any and all records on visits to the vet the puppy may have required while in the breeder’s care. It is also desirable to ask questions on the health of the parent dogs. The breeder must provide you with A 3- to 5-generation pedigree, and a “blue slip” to apply for registration of the Westie into the AKA.

Once you have found a trustworthy breeder here are a few tips on choosing the right puppy: Age is important; a puppy is usually ready to be taken to its new home at the age of eight to twelve weeks. You may find that all Westie pups look alike; they pretty much do all look alike. Look for a puppy with a sturdy build. The dog should feel firm, with good muscle tone. Their legs should be straight. The pup should be active when picked up, squirmy, after a short time relaxing and willing to be petted and cuddled a bit. Their coats should be thick and clean. There should be no discharge from eyes, nose or ears, and no odor at the ears. The eyes should be bright, with an alert look. The gums should be moist and pink. The dog should be active with the other pups. It’s a good idea to ask the breeder about the puppies personality. They can help you pick a dog that will be suited to your needs and your personality.

It is always smart to observe the dam for her traits. Does she appear overly shy, aggressive, stand-offish. Is she patient and watchful of the puppies, and not overly aggressive of the liter? Do the parent dogs look in good health? Are their coats healthy and do they appear active with good stamina? It is well known puppies can and do inherit traits from the parent dogs.

If you do your homework, you are more likely to pick just the right dog. The Westie is a wonderful breed. They are bright, happy spirited dogs, and will bring with them their own special outgoing personality. They will fast become your best friend.

Read Helpful Info About Make Dog Biscuits

Dogs is a major status symbol in American pet-keeping. Every year, over 12 billion dollars have been spent on dog food and veterinary care alone. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association’s 2003-2004 Pet Owners’ Survey, more than half of dog owners purchase toys for their dogs.

Playing with toys is not the monopoly of little kids but also pets of different kind. Dogs have their own sets of toys to enjoy during their playing time.

Dogs benefit from these toys, health and training wise. There are dog toys that can strengthen their teeth or build their intelligence especially if they also attend a series of training classes with the experts. Like man, dogs are very sociable. Interaction with their companion or a sibling dog is very important in avoiding behavioral problems in the future.

When buying toys for your dog, you may want to match them with your dog’s needs, demands and even personality. Is your dog the type that enjoys chasing and retrieving games, or chewing, sitting and sprawling? You may want to try experimenting first to find out which toys make your dogs the happiest.

Before going on a toy hunt, take a look at this list of toys that may help you identify the right kind of toy for your dog.

* CHEW TOYS. These are perfect for the dog that likes to chew a lot. Instead of your dog chewing your furniture, why not buy these TOUGH little babies for them. These types of dog toy are usually made of nylon or latex rubber. The “King Kong Toys” are among the popular brands of chew toys. You can experiment by stuffing these toys with peanut butter or cheese spread, freeze them and give them to your dog for hours of licking and chewing fun.

Doggie “potato chips” is also a favorite. These “edible chips” can last to a minimum of an hour to a couple of days. They are available in different shapes like pig ears, snouts, cow knuckles, femurs, hooves and bully sticks. Others are bone-shaped made from a variety of vegetables such as carrots.

Another good toy for your dog’s chewing pleasure is the rawhide. These are non- consumable, mummified skin-like toy that you have to throw away when they get soggy, and give your dog a new one. Some rawhides are basted with a variety of flavorings. Be sure to get the “USA rawhide” with a little flag sticker on the label because these do not contain preservative flavorings that are harmful for your dogs.

SQUEAKY TOYS. For these toys, choose the rubber over the stuffed toys for durability and to avoid synthetic materials. These little noisemakers are good for training your dog’s hunting skills.

RETRIEVING TOYS. These are perfect for the chase-and-retrieve types of dogs. Dogs enjoy these toys because they get to play with you. Frisbees and balls made specifically for this activity, are the best to be used. Your dog will get a good workout and so is your arm.

TUG TOYS. These toys are best for dogs that like to grab hold and never let go. Available in rope-like designs.

BRAIN TEASERS. Best for dogs that is left alone a lot. “Biscuit balls” and “food cubes” are great examples. These toys require the dog to solve types of puzzle in order to get a treat.

Various toys of these forms are available in the market.

1. For Chewers of all Sizes

SQUIRREL DUDE – tough, durable and fun too; this hollow rubber chew toy takes on a new level in innovation; this helps to exercise your dog’s jaw a little more with the four little rubber prongs blocking the hole slightly that the dog has to work a little harder to get the goodies out.

2. Ball Launchers and Throwers (Retrieve Toys)

FRISBEES – is an all-time favorite dog toy especially the soft version; fold to fit in a pocket; comes in blue and orange colors, size six to nine inches, prices at eleven to sixteen dollars.

THE ROUND ORBEE - a tough ball hallowed with ½ inch thick membraney surface and it’s softish; it is flexible, durable, grippy, bouncy, and buoyant and has a peppermint scent; good for sniffing-and-getting-the- ball game; prices at five to twelve dollars depending on the size and form you choose

3. Squeaky Toys

SQUEAKERS – available in packages of ten each; dogs that love to silence squeakers are the best for this toy; excellent as attention and pocket squeaker as well; prices go lower if you buy in packages, from five to three dollars each box/package.

4. Tug Toys

LEATHER TUGS – great for tug-of-war games with your dog; made of high grade leather, 3/8 inches thick, tanned and not-treated; dogs like them a lot especially those with active lifestyle.

THE MONGO FETCH TOY – a chew and tug toy combined in one; the natural rubber bar is vanilla scented; rope running through the center gives you a grip for tug games and the soft tasseled ends are made for exciting action with your dogs; medium to large in size, from five to seven dollars each.

5. Brain Teasers

I CUBE - this is a toy that challenges and develops your dog’s intelligence and puzzle solving skills; be sure you are there for supervision; available in junior and jumbo sizes, six to eleven dollars.

DUCK EGG BABY - egg Babies are a plush toy with three squeaker eggs inside; there is an opening on the bottom of the toy so your dog can get the hidden treasures inside; this is a toy that challenges and develops your dog’s intelligence and puzzle solving skills too.

Toys are a fun way to enjoy with your dog in a sunny day at the park. But be sure to apply proper safety measures especially when playing with balls, sticks and stones. You do not want to harm them in any way. Remember, this is a dog-eat-dog world! Even as harmless as playing can cause indestructible damage to your dog.

Find Out Important Information About Stop A Dog Barking

Sometimes dog owners are faced with a dilemma regarding what type pf dog food to provide their dogs. Dogs themselves tend to prefer the moist, canned types of food. They are more aromatic and naturally tempting to the dog’s palate than the dry kibble that comes in a bag. A dog’s dental health, however, relies on the dog being able to chew hard and crunchy items and dry kibble foods serve this purpose well. What’s an owner to do?

Some owners make a two pronged approach when selecting dog food for their furry friends. They will mix a portion of dry food with canned, effectively giving their dog the “best of both worlds.” If you are feeding canned food to your dog, you’ll definitely want to supplement it in some way with something that the dog can chew and crunch. Chew toys and dog biscuits or treats can help to serve this purpose.

Remember that a dog’s health depends greatly on the nutritional value of its food. A dog is only as healthy as the food that it eats, in many respects. The food you buy for your dog should meet its nutritional needs as best as possible, whether it is dry or moist. Unfortunately when it comes to dog food you get what you pay for. Store brands and generics tend to be made with cheaper ingredients and lots of fillers. They’ll feed your dog, but they may not be the best choices for it. The more expensive brands like Science Diet and Eukanuba which advertise that they are “specially formulated” really, to a certain extent, are. They will have higher quality ingredients and are better suited to meet your dog’s needs.

Truly, as long as you are providing a good method for your dog to work out its choppers on a regular basis, it doesn’t matter whether you’re using dry food or moist. During regular veterinary checkups your vet will examine the dog’s teeth and will warn you if there’s any issue that needs to be corrected by providing a different type of food or some dietary supplement.

The reason that dogs need to be able to chew on hard materials is twofold. It strengthens their teeth and works out the muscles of their jaw, keeping the teeth strong and the jaws powerful. It also provides a form of dental care. Owners should brush their dogs’ teeth at least twice a week. If this is not possible, however, crunchy foods like kibble and biscuits act as a sort of natural toothbrush for the dog, loosening plaque and tartar and cleaning the teeth.

Choosing the right food for your dog is important, both for the pooch’s nutritional needs and its good dental health. If you prefer to provide your dog the tastier soft, moist foods that come in a can that’s fine, just make sure you’re also providing something for Rover to really sink his teeth into.

When Does One Plus One Equal More Than Two? Investment Growth Calculators

If you are fifty years old or older, you may remember the slide rule and pencil in math class; if you are younger than that, you probably had the advantage of being able to use a calculator in your high school courses. Either way, the results are what mattered, and when you use investment growth calculators, the results matter even more than they did in Algebra.

That is because investment growth calculators are tools that do better than tell you the value of some arbitrary X. Investment growth calculators show you, in very real terms, and usually with pretty graphs, charts, or tables, how your investment dollars will multiply under certain conditions.

Basically, although they cannot determine the actual performance of, say, stocks, for example (now that would really be an amazing tool!), they can provide you valuable information about how your finances may grow with certain assumptions.

Letís say, for example, that you are now thirty-five years old. You think the government is crazy when it says that seventy is considered retirement age, and you want to be able to grab the golf clubs and the suitcase while you are still young enough to enjoy the greens and leisurely travel to foreign lands. You want to kiss your career goodbye the minute you hit the big 6-0, but you have no idea if that is really possible or not. Well, you can play around with the various fields of investment growth calculators to discover how much you need to invest, what return you need to get, and how many years you need to invest to reach that retirement goal.

If your kids are now toddlers and your goal is to put them through college in fifteen years, do you know what you have to do to be able to get them that coveted degree without flipping burgers while they study? Advisors can show you some guidelines using investment growth calculators.

One thing you must remember is that the answers you get from this tool are only as good as the information you program into them. If you are your advisor put in incorrect information or exaggerated figures youíre asking for major problems with your investments. Therefore always double check the information to ensure its accuracy.

South Africa: Fractional Ownership Vs Timeshare

Fractional Ownership

fractional ownership is a smart and affordable way to own an interest in a luxury home in a prime location. Investors acquire a share in the company which entitles them to exclusive usage rights to a luxury home owned by the company. Typically this share will entitle the investor to the use of the vacation home for four weeks annually. The company is responsible for all operating and administration costs. These operating costs are then shared with the other shareholders making the investment extremely efficient and fractional property ownership is a intelligent and cost effective way to own an interest in a luxury home in a prime location. Investors acquire a share in the company which entitles them to exclusive usage rights to a luxury home owned by the company. Typically this share will entitle the investor to the use of the holiday home for four weeks annually. The company is responsible for all operating and administration costs. These operating costs are then shared with the other shareholders making the investment extremely efficient and cost effective.

GOOD ADVICE: Many fractional title ownership companies tend to own a stand-alone house which investors then acquire a share which entitles them to use the house. This in itself is wonderful as you then have the use of a holiday home for your allotted times. Going to the same holiday home year in and year out can become boring.

So if you really want to benefit you should look for a fractional ownership company that has houses in a number of areas or resorts and where your share enables you to exchange your time at your usual vacation home and go stay at a different holiday home.

Also find out from the company if you are able to exchange holidays with other resorts locally and internationally and use your allocated time at another destination. These companies would be affiliated with companies such as the Registry Collection or RCI.
What private residence club means for you:

• This property is yours to occupy for four weeks every year. (this can vary depending on your holiday requirements)
• You are not responsible for the physical maintenance of the property.
• You are responsible for levy which covers your share of the operating and administration costs of your unit.
• If you are unable to occupy your holiday home you will be able to rent it out (and earn income from it).

HOT TIP: Look to purchase an affordable share in a debt-free and appreciating luxury holiday home. The holiday home should not be bonded by the fractional ownership company

Timeshare
This type of ownership entitles you to occupy a furnished holiday home or apartment in a fully serviced resort property for a specified amount of time annualy. Prices of timeshare vary depending on the standard of the property and facilities, length of period to be purchased (normally a week), season and size of unit (one two or three bedroom). There is an annual levy payable each year to the resort.

Timeshare can be exchanged so you can take holidays at other resorts for your allocated time or can be deposited in a rental pool if not utilized

Time share is packaged in two different options:
• Fixed week: This allocates a one week occupancy at a specific time every year
• Floating week: this will allocate you a week in a particular season

In summary: Fractional property ownership is a more refined and sophisticated option in leisure investment. The product is more upmarket and the units tend to be of a better quality and bigger size.

You can pick up some great deals on the timeshare option of leisure ownership through timeshare resales though.

Under Capitalized Banks And Rate Listing Services

Numerous people don’t think about the capitalization of their bank. However, it is a good harbinger of distress and if not corrected early and quickly, many under capitalized banks fail. Under capitalized banks are able to use rate listing services to attract certificate of deposits (CDs). As it appears that no one is policing these services, banks are able to offer interest rates significantly above the new Rate Cap that the FDIC has put into place. Although, the law doesn’t go into effect until January 1, 2010, the FDIC is encouraging voluntary cooperation. From what I’m seeing, under capitalized banks aren’t cooperating. I have a serious problem with the law that allows banks (under or well capitalized) through a rate listing service to attract deposits and classify them as a core deposit. Anybody with any sense and logic can see that clearly, CDs placed through a rate listing service are not core.

This poses a few problems. First, rate listing services and companies such as ours are basically doing the same thing. We help banks, often times community banks, attract direct cDs to meet their funding needs. For various reasons, deposits such as ours are more attractive than local deposits. Ours may be less expensive, easier to work with, faster to obtain, etc. Those reasons aren’t really part of this article. If Credit Union A buys a direct CD from me to go into Bank B, they are brokered deposits. If Credit Union A purchases a direct CD from the rate listing service to go into Bank B, it is not a brokered CD. It is the same money, the same bank. Everything is the same except for the middle man (or middle listing service). This leads to the second problem. Banks are now using rate listing services to avoid paying the new FDIC assessment on brokered deposits. I can’t really blame the banks for doing this. After all, the law allows them to. But if the FDIC’s concern is that out-of-area deposits pose more of a risk to the bank, then all out-of-area deposits should be properly supervised, managed, and assessed if appropriate.

Another problem (the real point of this post) is under capitalized banks are not allowed to take brokered certificates without a waiver from the FDIC. This is supposed to prevent unhealthy banks from running up their deposits and causing the FDIC to pay out even more deposits. These deposits also can cause a bank to be less valuable to potential acquirers and thus increasing the cost to the FDIC. An under capitalized bank is able to take non-core deposits from a rate listing services without a second glance. The rates they are offering are supposed to be at or below the rate cap that the FDIC has published. It appears that no one is policing this. At a minimum, rate listing services should have to build into their programs rate restrictions on under capitalized banks. Below are a couple of examples of current under capitalized banks offering high rates on a rate listing service and attracting deposits.

I’m not going to circulate the banks because I don’t really want to cause problems for them. Bank A is currently under capitalized with a Total Risk Based Capital Ratio (RR) of around 5.5%. This needs to be 10% to be considered well capitalized. Their capital ratio is just over 2%. Generally, regulators like to see a 7% or above. The numbers reported on the June Call report are even worse. This bank is currently accepting deposits through a rate listing service with some of the best rates in the country. The rate cap established by the FDIC is 3.00% for a 5-year CD. They were recently offering around a 3.40%.

Bank B is also currently under capitalized. They have a RR of 6.9%. The capital ratio is 4.6%. These are amazingly low. This bank is also currently soliciting deposits through a rate listing service. Their 1-year deposit rate was around 2.00%. That is higher than many internet specials. The rate cap in place by the FDIC is 1.85%. I could give numerous other examples.

I realize my opinion probably won’t be very popular with banks, especially those on the rate listing services. But, I ask you, do you want to have to compete with the high interest rates being offered by banks such as those listed above? I also ask you to think about what is the intent of the law when it comes to accepting such deposits. The intent of the law is that banks do their due diligence when accepting out-of-area/non-core deposits. Rate listing services currently make it easy for banks to ignore that step.
